Organization.  Teams of 9 or ten with pinnies.  (Grouping)

Ball handling.  Individual job throw and catch.  Change of direction.

Space, absorb ball.

With kids what could you work on?

Quick transition from attack to defence/

5 on 5 game with four goals in four grids.

Add Line-out for out-of-bounds.

Time-out.  Strategy needed.

Finf space.  Mark player.  Fake.  Quick short passes.

  • Pairs. Partner coach STEP, PREP, SWING
  • Pairs run with partner coming from deep
  • 3 pairs defend.  Run over the middle two grids.  If get across without dropping ball or passing forward score

Lesson 8

Intents – Progression of lead-up games to the formal like game.  Understand why of rules and affect on play.  Skills arise from game demands.  When could skill be learned/refined?

·        Review passing and team-play.  Run, Plant prep, SWING and follow through
Penetrate and support.

·        Warm-up – Block the pylon/ball.  Walk, stretch then run stretch.

·        360 degrees rugby in 4 games – Line-outs - Sampling
If ball goes out of play – 20 by 20 grid

·        4 v 4 rugby game – Chicken scrum for knock-on – Representation

Practice in team partners coach.

 

SCRUM – PREP Wide Base Lock head partners chest (right side), bind inside arm.  Shoulders above hips.  Three person Props lift hooker up by shorts

WIND-UP – Knees bent, back straight, lean forward.
FORCE GENERATION – push into partner with shoulders above hips – Loose hand scratch for ball.  Hooker use outside foot to strike

         RECOVERY – release grip and lean back to stand.


If ball knocked forward.  How do you set-up in defence? How do you set up in attack? 

·        3 on 1 practice – Scissors, loop, miss-out – Exaggeration.
How can a team create space to attack opponent’s territory?

 

Review side passing – RUN, PLANT/PREP, SWING AND FOLLOW THROUGH.  Hips take out opponent.  If opponent does not follow then fake.

 

·        4 v 4 game (2 x 5 v 5) – 40 by 10 grids.  Allowed to kick the ball forward.

Where is the space to invade?  Rule can only kick out direct if in last quarter of field.  Ball must bounce first if not in last quarter.

How can you gain territory?

 

·        9 v 9 game in 40 by 20 grid – 3 person scrum –

How can you invade territory?  When have ball?  When do not have the ball?

·        9 v 9 game in 40 by 20 grids – Grubber in attack.  Lofted kick in defence

 

Kicks

Pairs – Partner coach and fetch ball.  Then kick to partner to catch

Lofted

Grip – Angled with 2 hands

Step – Longer step more swing

Swing – Bend knee, extend leg as drop ball.

Lases – Hit with laces on side of ball

Through – Swing foot in line with kick.  Follow kick.

 

Grubber

Grip – Angled drop

Wind-up – Bend knee

Force – Down on ball with knee over the ball

Hit into ground immediately in front of you.
