Learning Outcomes:  Be able to read a green and use proper swing mechanics to make putts of various distances 

Equipment: Putting green with several holes, at least one putter per two people, many golf balls

Introductory Activities/Warm-Up

  • Group Stretching

 

  • Safety when putting

 

 

 

  • Teacher will use command style when doing the group stretching

  • Students will be in a semi-circle around the teacher who is leading the stretching

  • Teacher will emphasize that golf clubs can be dangerous if not swung properly

Skill Development-Concept

  • Putting Stroke without the ball

    • Grip

    • Stance

    • Stroke

  • Putt with eyes closed

    • Try 10 putts with eyes open then close eyes

  • 5 in a line Game

    • Make 5 putts in a row of varying distances, and on various contours of the green

    • Can progress to longer putts once putts have been made

 

  • Teacher will use command style, by having students mimic a proper putting stroke
  • Students will be in partners and will start by practicing together with teacher giving feedback
  • Students can develop a grip that is comfortable for them
  • Develop feel for making contact with the ball solidly with the eyes closed
  • Teacher will give the Students reciprocal task sheets for putting during the 5 in a line Game
  • Students will have to figure out how to read the green

Culminating Activity

  • Golf 21
    • Putt the ball as close to hole as possible
    • First partner to 21 wins (closest to hole = 1 pt, lip out = 2 pts, in the hole = 3 pts)
    • Partners take putts at hole from equal distances from opposite sides of the hole

 

  •  Students will be in partners

  • Students can change partners once they have finished one game

  • Teacher will provide feedback

Closure

  • Answer any questions, review of putting

 

  • As a group teacher and students will discuss elements of putting
