Consistency

Hitting the ball continuously against the wall

-throwing
-throwing with one, two, then three consecutive hits
-consecutive hitting(simplify allowing two bounces)
Cooperatively keeping the ball going with a partner
-throwing
-throwing with one, two, then three consecutive hits
-consecutive hitting

Consistently hitting an area on the court

Castle Game
-throwing against the wall with a partner cooperatively trying to hit the target
-progress to hitting cooperatively trying to hit the target(simplify using hoola hoops)
-compete trying to hit the target
(extend by moving the target further away)
-play to win (player who lost rally catch and throw and winner uses racket)
(or weaker player uses hoola hoop around cone as a target)
-also extend by adding in paddle racket

Forehand shot

Demonstrate feeding to partner and giving feedback
Tell students to give specific and positive feedback
Observers check grip and feed ball
Watch person not the ball
Switch partners after 10 shots
Circulate and help observers focus on main points

Forehand shot reciprocal task card

Racket grip
-shake hands with racket
-make V with forefinger and thumb
-racket should be able to rotate for various shots

Forehand shot
-lead with racket foot
-shoulders square to ball at point of contact
-watch ball hit racket

Play half court squash incorporating shot
Practice forehand shot in pairs again
Vary speeds and placement of shot for extensions
Finish with Half court squash game
(extend using by adding real racket and ball)
(play to win by making winner of rally use real racket or really strong players can only score in front half of court)

Backhand shot

Guided Discovery
-have a student hit a shot to your back hand
-run over and get it with your fore hand
-ask if that was the most efficient way to return the ball
-ask how it could be done more efficiently

Demonstrate feeding to partner and giving feedback
Tell students to give specific and positive feedback
Observers feed ball to partner
Watch person not the ball
Switch partners after 10 shots
Circulate and help observers focus on main points

Backhand shot reciprocal task card

Backhand shot
-lead with racket foot
-shoulders square to ball at point of contact
-watch ball hit racket

Play half court squash incorporating shot
Practice backhand shot in pairs again
Vary speeds and placement of shot for extensions
Alternate forehand and backhand shots as another extension

Serving and Receiving

Server must serve from the service box to the other side of the court
One foot must remain in the box for the serve
The first lesson will involve mainly use the (Command)and (Practice) styles to teach the basic skills of serving and receiving

Serve from the service box:
        - shoulders are perpendicular to the right wall (if right-handed)
        - bring racquet up to eye level and have left foot forward
        - let ball drop and use forehand stroke motion to contact it
        - keep eyes on ball for impact and follow through
(simplify using throwing or paddle racket)

Basic serve receiving
        - facing the front wall, in in ready position
-watch the server not the wall
        -wait behind service box

The next day extend to inclusion style by giving out the following task card and letting students practice what they need to in their pairs
Explain that the previous skill should be mastered before moving on to the next one and servers and receivers should alternate.
The whole group will not be given specific instruction on the more advanced skills on the cards since only the more skilled students will be doing those skills and often these are students who can learn skills on their own.

Side Arm or under hand serve
- shoulders are perpendicular to the right wall (if right-handed)
- bring racquet up to eye level and have left foot forward
- let ball drop and use forehand stroke motion to contact it
- keep eyes on ball for impact and follow through
Serve placement
-practice aiming to different spots on the court
-decide which spot is the hardest to return from
-practice serving to that spot
Backand serve
-hold racket head and ball in front of pelvis
-drop ball and hit, aiming for a spot on the wall

As well as the serving task card, the students will be given the following receiving task card.
Teacher will circulate to give feedback and help with the guided discoveries.

Basic serve receiving
- facing the front wall, in ready position
-watch the server not the wall
-wait behind service box
Experiment with different returns
Which return is the hardest for the server to get to?
(Guided Discovery)
Practice that return
Server be passive at first and then try to score
What is the furthest shot from this optimal return?
(Guided Discovery)
Practice that shot as a return.
Server be passive at first and then try to score.
