Squash Tournament
The tournament will be held over a two day period at the end of the
unit. The format of the tournament will focus more on participation as
opposed to a clear winner and loser. Students will playing against
their peers of varying skill levels. Although the final outcome of
the tournament will not distinguish the best squash player it does encourage
healthy, tactful and competitive squash play. It will be in the ladder
style and will have the following format:
-
30 students will be split up into six groups of 4 and one group of 6(completly
random) numbered 1-7
-
everyone in each group will begin by playing each other in a round robin
format.
-
after the round robin, the two players with the most wins can rotate up
to the next number and challenge another player
-
the two players with the least amount of wins will rotate down a number
and challenge another player
-
the top two players in group 7 will always stay in that group the the bottom
two will always stay in group 1
-
if there is a tie between the players then a single round knock out game
of paper-rock-scissors will determine the top two to advance.
-
games will be played on a timed basis- 5 minute game and 1 minute to switch
-
the player leading after the whistle goes wins the match
-
players must record there wins and losses on a chart
-
in a 1hr. class with a 10 min warm up, ideally the tournament would go
for 40 min and allow for 8 games
-
if skillful players emerge and are dominating every game, rules for them
will be implemented. such as...they can only score a designated area of
the court...they can only score off the service
-
if ties occur, the challenge is given to the students to continue playing
squash and settle them outside of PE class
-
at the end of the second day of the tournament the student with the most
wins is the big cheese
Game number and win "W" or loss "L"
