SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS
- Proper warm-ups and stretching – explain that the quick dynamic
movements and lunges can cause muscle injuries and therefore proper warm-ups
and stretching is needed
- Do equipment checks to make sure it is in good working and safe
condition
- Equipment use – racquets are to be used in a proper manner –
they are not for hitting people or objects other than birdies
- Shuttlecocks get moving very quickly during the game – be aware
that these can cause injuries such as bruises and eye injuries – be aware
at all times on the court and keep your racquet up when you are playing near
the net
- Pairing people for games will be a consideration – pairing someone
who hits very hard with someone who has a slow reaction time wouldn’t be a
good idea
- Birdies should be used for games and drills only – do not use
people or other things for target practice
- Facility – within and near the playing area should be free of
obstacles and the floor should be swept
- Students should be wearing appropriate strip and shoes
- Have first aid kit in the gym or somewhere close by
