10 Minutes Introductory Activities

-Warm-up “Ball Toss”
-Warm-up “Off the Wall”

 

Divide the class up in groups of 5 or 4, put them on court

-Explain the warm-up

Cues to the students
-Work on eye-hand coordination & get use to the lighting
-Use racquet hand for both the tossing & catching
-Stay on the balls of the feet & always watch the ball
 

20 Minutes Skill Development/Concept 

- Forehand/Backhand Drives

-What is a drive & when is it played

-Hitting the ball from a hand feed

-Hand feed 

-Racquet feed
 
 
 

 

-Have students line up in clear view for a demonstration
-Explain when & why the drive is used
-Have all students spread out and go through the motion 
“Forehand drive without the ball”
-Have all students line up behind the “T” with one doer
-Go through the motion again, emphasizing the Preparation, contact point & follow through
-Go through the motion again, this time with the instructor hand feeding the ball.
-Provide feedback on the technique in a group
-Continue with the hand feeds and give individual immediate feedback
-Move to racquet feeds, shorten the length of waiting time
-Move to the backhand side (or left side of the court, depending on what hand the students are)
-Perform the same task (Swing techniques are the same on both sides)

Key points:
*Don’t get too close to the ball
*Try not to over swing
*Step towards the front wall for more power
*Keep hand & arm relaxed
*Early & high racquet preparation
 
 

 

20 Minutes Culminating Activity

-Play the ¾ court game
 

-Explain 3/4 court games
-Emphasize ball control & proper hitting position
-Concentrate on Contact Point, Follow-Through and Ball Placement
-Have Fun
 
2 Minutes Closure

-Review Skills

 

-Introduce the skills that will be covered in the next lesson

Teacher divides students into partners 

- 3 groups per squash court 

- Explain the warm-up

Cues to the students: 
-Keep your eyes up 
-Use quick movements 
-Be aware of the other groups around you 
 
 

- Consistency Drill

- Lob Serve
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

-Serve Return
 

-Have students line up in clear view for a demonstration

-Stand close to the front wall with the back-foot
entirely inside the service box 
-Pick target on the front-wall
-Swing under and up 
-Racquet face meets theball below 4 o’clock 
-Form a line with toes to establish the direction
of the ball 

-Have students practice for consistency
 

-Best return is high back down the wall similar to the
straight drives 
-Position is off the corner of the opposite
service box (not too deep in the back court) 
-Relax and always watch the ball 
-Once the ball is returned down the wall, move to the “T” and prepare for the next shot

-Have students practice with light easy serves to start, progess to harder serves.  Minimize shot selection.

20 Minutes Culminating Game

-Serve Game

-Explain Serve Game
-Concentrate on key points to the serve and serve return
2 Minutes Closure

-Review skills

-Introduce the skills that will be covered in the next lesson
