The sport of sqaush requires a high level of fitness as you are active for 50-70% of the playing time. Players need to move quickly around the court, while maintaining control over ball placement and being aware of the position of the ball, racquets and other players. Although the overall risk of injury in sqaush is low in comparison with other sports, the injuries that do occur can be quite severe. The majority of injuries in sqaush are from acute or traumatic events such as falling on the court or being hit by the ball. Only a small percentage of the injuried are overuse.
There are many precautions that must be taken to prevent injuries in the game of sqaush. These apply to any level of player, not only the beginners. These rules and precautions will be strickly adhered to in our class.
- Never enter a squash court while play is in progress.
- Always keep the court doors fully closed and handles
flush with the walls while play is in progress.
- Players should drink plenty of fluids before,
during and after a match.
- All players should undertake proper and adequate
warm-up procedures before each game.
- Every player should always wear eye protection.
- Players should wear appropriate footwear, preferably
court shoes.
- Players should perform a cool-down after each
game.
- Players should stop playing immediately if they
are injured and seek immediate first aid or medical treatment.
A first aid kit will be available at each session.
