Based on curriculum organizers
1. Active Lifestyle
2. Movement
3. Personal/Social Responsibility
1. Active Lifestyle
One of the most important
considerations in this unit plan, is promoting an active lifestyle.
It is important for students to gain an appreciation and develop and cognitive
understanding of the importance of an active, healthy lifestyle.
The objective of this unit is to introduce and expose the students to a
new activity, one they most likely have not experienced. By doing
this, it breaks the traditional basketball, volleyball, soccer mould that
some would say keeps students away from participation. Because this
activity is new to many students, we feel that there will be more of an
even playing field, which will promote participation and give the students
a greater opportunity for success. This new found confidence is an
excellent way of achieving an appreciation for active living.
2. Movement
As with most unit plans,
the psychomotor objective of this unit is the unify the mind, and body,
meaning that the students, although in a new environment, will get the
chance to utilize skills they've learned and apply them in a new setting.
Realizing that they can learn a new game with skill that they already posses.
Although some skills will have to be learned and strategies will need to
be taught, having an appreciation for the movement needs will strengthen
the students will to participate in both new and old environments.
3. Personal/ Social Responsibility
Squash has a predetermined
etiquette, along the same lines as golf and tennis. Although ten
lessons is not enough to fully grasp all aspects of etiquette, the students
will be exposed to a new setting were personal and social responsibilities
are key elements. Learning to play the game and adhering to the rules,
lets and strokes, provides them with the perfect affective learning situation.
Therefore, the objective of this unit is to teach the students an appreciation
for the personal and social responsibilities for the game of squash, this
new found appreciation will hopefully be translated into everyday living.
