Philosophical Statement

We believe that Physical Education should be inclusive where all participants, regardless of gender or ability, are encouraged to make meaningful choices.  By providing choices, participants will develop valuable life skills in each of the following areas: physical, psychological, social, emotional, and environmental.  The Squash 9 – 10 Unit Plan utilizes several teaching styles: command, practice, reciprocal, self-check, inclusion, guided discovery and divergent discovery.  All warm-ups, new skills/concepts, and culminating activities include learning objectives and tasks/activities that are challenging and inclusive.  Participants are provided with several alternatives where they can choose the opportunities that are appropriate for their skill level; ladder tournaments, written opportunity, concept maps, and peer-to-peer evaluations are examples.  We hope that by providing several choices each participant will be motivated to reach his or her full potential and create a positive attitude toward a physical activity that will last a lifetime.
