Managerial Routines and Organizational Time Savers
Attendance:
Attendance will be taken at the
beginning of every class.
If a student arrives late, it is
their responsibility to sign in with the teacher after class.
Distribution and collection of materials:
The teacher will have all of the
equipment prepared prior to class time.
All balls will be placed inside
hula-hoops to prevent them from rolling around on floor.
Students will pick up safety
goggles as they come out of change rooms prior to class.
Students must return safety
goggles as they enter the change rooms at the end of class.
All of the racquets/paddles will
be available upon the teacher’s consent.
Bathroom privileges:
Due to limited class time,
students are required to use the washroom before or after class.
If it is an emergency, students
must ask the teachers permission and return promptly.
Dismissal:
Students must wait for the
teacher’s dismissal before going to get changed.
All equipment must be placed
back into their appropriate spots before dismissal.
Appropriate gym strip:
All students must have
appropriate gym strip before participating.
Appropriate gym strip includes:
shorts/sweat pants, t-shirt/sweat shirt, and proper footwear.
It is the teacher’s discretion,
which generally depends on the activity, whether a student can participate
with only appropriate footwear.
Those students without strip
will be assigned an in class project such as peer assessment or teacher time-on-task assessment.
Speaking in class:
All students must raise their
hand before answering a question produced by the teacher during class
discussions.
All squash balls must be held during
class discussion.
All students must respect one
another and not talk while others are speaking.
During most of the activities
communication will be strongly encouraged, especially when using certain
teaching styles.
When the teacher yells "stop",
blows a whistle, or yells "everyone in", students must hustle in to the
teacher.
Breaking into small group activities:
When breaking into groups, the
students will number themselves and each number will have an outlined duty
such as finding an area within the gym or collecting equipment.
Teaching space:
Stand in front of all students,
not in the middle of the group.
Have the students face away from
any distractions.
Make use of gym space (i.e.
create squash courts by placing tape on the walls and by placing cones on the
ground).
