Teaching Styles

Command Style - Command style will aid the learner to:
- get immediate results
- use time efficiently
- build group identity and pride
- enhance spirit of the dancer
- achieve uniformity within a group

Practice Style - Practice style are good ways to introduce beat and footwork to novice dancers.  It will:
- allow the learners to practice beat and footwork on their own
- realize that proficient performance is a result of task repetition
- realize that feedback will aid in attaining proficient performance

We feel that command and practice styles are important to introduce new skills and concepts, and with this base, it will be possible to implement new teaching styles easier.

Reciprocal Style - Once the learner has a base, reciprocal style can be used to:
- build interpersonal relationships and skills
- allow students the opportunity to observe a partner, and evaluate performance versus criteria
- reinforce key cues to the observer
- have students be responsible for their own learning

Self-Check Style - Self-check will provide students to:
- be less dependent on the teacher
- rely on self for feedback
- learn error detection and correction of self

Inclusion Style - Inclusion will cause individuals:
- to work at varying levels within the same activity
- to work at their own comfort level
- to begin at own entry level
- detect and correct own errors

Guided Discovery - Guided discovery will cause the learner to:
- discover the correct concept on their own
- feel "ownership"
- move beyond their memory
- activate higher learning processes
- arrive at the moment of "EUREKA!"

Divergent Discovery - Divergent discovery will allow the students to:
- gain ownership of their own dance
- feel pride in creating something together
- negotiate with each other
- be creative
