LEARNING OUTCOMES / OBJECTIVES
It is our goal that students experience and benefit from the learning outcomes and objectives that are expressed in this unit. The British Columbia Integrated Resource Package for PE K-12 outlines the learning outcomes for the various activities, levels, and grades of the physical education program. Learning outcomes related to the Grade 8 level can be viewed at Prescribed Learning Outcomes for Physical Education 8-10 in the IRP.

This unit focuses on learning outcomes and objectives for all three learning domains: Cognitive, Physical / Psychomotor, and Social / Affective. They include:

COGNITIVE

  • Understanding and applying rules, routines, and safety (students wrestle with someone who is the appropriate weight and has the necessary skill and strength).
  • Identify benefits of wrestling.
  • Identify physical fitness components of wrestling -strength, endurance, power, flexibility and agility.
  • Recognize and understand the concept of when to use opponents weight and force against them.
  • Understanding wrestling concepts and strategies.
  • Knowledge of proper warm-up and cool-down activities.

PHYSICAL / PSYCHOMOTOR

  • Select, combine, and perform movement concepts and skills related to GROUND wrestling.
  • Apply activity specific motor skills for appropriate moves and counters
  • Apply basic offensive and defensive strategies
  • Ability to perform practiced moves and counters in a progressive manner in order to physically manipulate opponent.

SOCIAL / AFFECTIVE

  • Respect for others no matter what their size, shape, color or beliefs
  • Develop self-confidence, self-esteem, courage, control, confidence, self-assertiveness, and healthy aggressiveness.
  • Becoming comfortable with appearance and physical contact
  • Conducting appropriate social behaviour, etiquette, and sportsmanship
  • Applying leadership skills
