PSYCHOMOTOR SKILLS

Referee's Position- ( 'The regular on the ground position')

1) The bottom wrestler must place himself on his knees, with his hands on the mat, hands and elbows spread at a distance of at least 8 inches from his knees. His arms must remain straight with feet uncrossed.

2) The top wrestler or the one starting on the offensive, may take any position which he considers suitable for attacking but he must first make contact with his opponent by placing his two open hands upon the back of the wrestler who is underneath.

1/2 Nelson-

1) reach across in front of opponents face and sink your armpit to his neck

2) Be at right angles to opponent, legs spread, knees off the mat, applying chest to chest pressure.

3) Elevate opponents head to prevent bridging by levering with your elbow

4) Place the free hand through the crotch and up the back.

Leg lock and roll reversal

1) With the offensive man over-balanced drive your inside arm through his crotch.

2) Attempt to lock your hands and pressure hard with your right arm forcing the man over.

3) As the top man is rolled, apply a 1/2 nelson and flatten out so you don't overbalance.

Two-on -one far leg breakdown

From a position to the left and rear-side of your opponent.

1) Reach with the right hand to your opponent's far ankle; and reach with your left hand under his waist to his far knee.

2) Pull in sharply with both hands and drive toward that leg forcing your opponent to the mat.

3) Attempt to turn your opponent over as he hits the mat and apply a 1/2 nelson to complete the move.

1/2 Nelson from Prone position

Once opponent has been broken down to his stomach, the objective is to move him to his back for a pinning combination.

1) Maintain control of opponent from left side. Reach under armpit and place hand on top of his head to gain max. leverage.

2) Apply pressure by straightening arm. Attempt to pry his head under arm. As this is done, move to a right angle to him and apply more pressure through your chest to his-push with your feet.

3) Sink arm deeply into 1/2 nelson before trying to take him any farther.

4) Be chest to chest as you force him over. Flatten out quickly to avoid over-balancing. Complete the fall with the other hand going for a crotch hold.

Tight waist near arm breakdown.

From a position to the left-rear of your opponent.

1) Drop your right arm to a tight waist hold.

2) At the same time reach for your opponent's left arm above the elbow.

3) Pull the arm back hard and drive with your chest towards that arm.

4) Apply the 1/2 nelson from the prone position.

Elbow roll reversal

This reversal is used when your opponent applies a tight waist hold. It is to be performed with caution because of the danger of exposing your own shoulders to the mat.

1)Grasp the offensive wrestler's waistlock wrist (his right) with your right hand, and hook his right elbow with yours.

2)Move your left shoulder under your opponent's chest, drop your right shoulder and roll him to his back. Use your left elbow on the inside of your opponent's thigh to help force his legs over.

3) Kick up and over with your right leg to control him and avoid exposing your own shoulders

4) Flatten out and apply a 1/2 nelson

Counter to elbow roll

Two suggested counters:

1)As the defensive wrestler hooks your elbow, pivot quickly to the sideof the hook and spread legs so he cannot roll you.

2a) As the defensive wrestler hooks and drops his shoulder to start the roll, straighten your arm so that his arm will tend to slip off your elbow. Be perpendicular to your opponent, legs spread behind, hips low. Apply pressure with your chest.

2b) Look for opponent supporting some of his weight with his left hand. Apply a 1/2 nelson with your left hand and turn him over for a pin.

Reverse 1/2 nelson cradle

Practice this pinning combination with opponent on his back.

1) From your opponent’s right side and perpendicular to him, place your left arm behind his neck.

2) Drive your right arm through the crotch and go behind your opponent’s left knee and lock hand’s.

3) Apply pressure with your leg’s and chest. Squeeze his leg’s towards his neck and elevate his head to prevent bridging action.

Bridge turn-out

The defensive wrestlr practices this counter by having his partner apply a reverse 1/2 nelson without the cradle. Token pressure is to be applied by offensive man.

1) Use bridging action. As down action creates gap, drive the arm on the side of your opponent through the opening and turn quickly out or away from your opponent in an attempt to gain your stomach.

Cross- face far leg breakdown

From a position to left and middle of your opponent:

1) Reach with your right hand to his far ankle.

2) At the same time reach over his left shoulder, across the side of his face to grasp his far arm just above the elbow.

3) Simultaneously pull leg and arm towards you, while driving in the direction of the arm just pulled away.

4) Attempt to tilt opponent to back applying 1/2 nelson as he turns over.

Far arm far ankle breakdown

From a position to the left and middle of your opponent:

1) Reach with your right hand and grab your opponent’s far ankle.

2) In the same motion, reach under his chest and grab him by the upper arm.

3) Pull the arm towards you and drive towards it.

Near arm roll reversal

This reversal manoeuvre should be used if your opponent reaches under your near arm for either a 1/2 nelson from the knees or a far arm hold.

1) Hook your opponent’s left arm tightly above the elbow.

2) Pull his shoulder sharply underneath you as you pressure him towards the mat. Push your hip into him at the same time.

3) As the roll is made step over him with your inside leg (left). Make this a fast action move, stepping over him to come to a chest to chest position.

4) Finish off with a reverse 1/2 nelson and cradle.
