Organizational Strategies
Equipment:
-
when equipment is not in use, it is kept contained in proper
area (i.e.. bin, hula hoop or bucket)
-
spread the equipment out around the playing area if a variety
of equipment is needed in the lesson
-
equipment is set out to match students' skill level; choice
of equipment should be provided for differing ability levels
-
students have pre assigned group numbers; each group is delegated
a specific equipment job for the lesson ("ones go get a ball, twos go find
an open space")
Teaching Space:
-
use as much of the gym or field as possible
-
far field only used with teacher support or when absolutely
necessary
-
provide adequate space between grids for safety
-
teacher should move around the entire playing area to observe
from all sides
-
allow students enough space to perform task effectively /
safely
-
teacher should be close enough to provide frequent and effective
feedback
-
grids effectively and efficiently space the class
Support Materials:
-
Hula Hoops quickly and effectively
separate equipment
-
all sizes of cones are necessary for
mapping out different sizes of grids (little cones for the little grids...big
cones for the big grids, etc.)
-
get the students accustomed to a whistle
system; one blow means hold the equipment, two blows means come in to the
teacher and so on to keep teacher from yelling all the time
-
have extra work available for the students
without their "kit" (gym strip and shoes)
