CONTENT ANALYSIS

Content will be broken down progressively for tactical understanding and skill development (Hopper, 1998).  The relationship will be basic skill to play, then from game play to skill development and back to more challenging game play (Thorpe and Bunker, 1989).  Skills will be broken down into off-the-ball movements and on-the-ball skills (Griffin, Mitchell & Oslin, 1997).

Invading Territory:
- maintain possession
- look for open space
- pass into open space
- create open space 
- move to open space 
- dribble to open space
Passing and recieving the ball:
- chest pass
- bounce pass
- overhead pass

Dribbling the ball:
- low dribble
- dribbling with dominant hand
- dribbling with non-dominant hand

Shooting:
- jump shot
- lay-up
 

Quick movements to get to open space

Ready Position

Support ball handler

Create open space

Lateral movement

 

Defending Territory from Invasion:
- take away angles
- intercept the ball
- re-gain possession
- anticipate opponents moves
- defend the basket
 
Defend the player with the ball:
- arms up
- ready position
- watch the players body
- stop the player from attacking the basket

 

 Defend the player without the ball:
- one hand point to the player, one hand point to the ball
- read the players movements
- cover open space
