1) What the whistle means: Freeze, both feet on ground, stop talking, hold balls or equipment.
2) Bathroom privileges: May go after asking teacher. Teacher assures that they go one at a time.
3) The "Smile / Frown" system:
-There will be a chart on the wall
with a column of all the students names. (For each unit done in the class.)
-There will be many boxes beside the
students' names in which check marks can be made.
-These boxes will be divided into
one column of "smiling faces" and one column of "frowning faces".
-At the end of the unit, the number
of frowning faces will be subtracted from the number of smilling faces.
That number
will be added to the final grade for
that unit.
Ways to get a smilling face:
-Doing a task which was asked for by
the teacher. ie. setting up/taking down equipment.
-Teacher may notice a student being
particularily helpfull to other students while learning new skills.
-As students enter the gym, before
the first whistle is blown, to avoid unorganized activity; students get
into pairs and perform a series of activities which will be written on
a card on the wall. (If there is no card on the wall, 10 laps of the gym,
will be done instead.) If the task is completed before the first whistle,
is blown, then a check will be awarded. If this has been completed once,
the next class students must find a new partner, or the check will not
count.
-At the end of each class, 2 minutes
before the bell, the teacher will ask 2 students to share either a current
sporting event or a new and interesting fitness and lifestyle fact that
they have learned outside of school. If the response is satisfactory, then
a check will be awarded.
Ways to get a frowning face:
-Arriving late (after the first whistle)
-Arriving without a strip
-Unexcused absence
-Misconduct:
*Roughhousing
*Disrespect
to classmates and/or teacher
*Not following
instructions
*Not freezing
at the whistle
*Belittling
of others

by the assesment sheet.
Equipment Considerations:
- Students awarded for quickly setting up equipment
on command of the teacher.
- Ask students to bring in any equipment not needed after
a drill has been completed.
- Any non-participating students, for whatever reason,
will be included in the class by being assigned to equipment duties.
- Have as little equipment added throughout the lesson
as possible, as it is easier to take away than it is to add.
- Use as much space as possible in each lesson.
Groupings:
-The students will be grouped into numbers so as to aid
in smooth transitions from one drill to the next. For example, they will
start in pairs and then move into groups of four to minimize the amount
of time spent organizing the students.
-The students will often be forced to work with new partners
and the larger groups will vary. For example, in a 2 vs 2 modified game,
after playing together for one drill each pair will play a new pair.
The ability of the students to work together successfully will be assesssed
for marks, thereby encouraging the liklihood of cooperation.
Transitions:
-As little new equipment will be added during the lesson
in order for the drills to flow into each other. For example, the
grids will be laid out before the start of class. As the drills progress,
cones will only be removed, but not added.
-The students will be given pinnies only once during
the class and the groupings will match the already made teams.
