Basketball Assessment

Below is an example of how to assess students in basketball, by using the Game Performance Assessment Inventory (GPAI) (Griffin et al., 1997; Hopper, 2001).

CATEGORY - Criteria for Appropriate/Efficient rating:

1. Decision Made  - Criteria:
Player attempts to pass to an open teammate
Player attempts to pass to score when appropriate

2. Motor-skill execution – Criteria:
Reception – Control of pass and ball setup for triple threat
Passing – Ball reaches target
Shooting – Ball shot above the net into target area

3. Support – Criteria:
The player appeared to support the ball carrier by being in or moving to an appropriate position to receive a pass.
