Managerial Routines

An easy way to attendance with each class is to break the
student list up (alphabetically), putting the players in groups of 5 or
6 students. The groups are "attendance teams". At the beginning
of the class, the students line up in each of their groups. The teacher
simply goes through each of the groups, marking down the students who are
reported absent. This method of taking attendance is very advantageous.
It is very quick and efficient at determining who is absent, and if needed,
the class is already broken up into small groups for activity. (David
Backhouse, Teacher @ Arbutus)
-
Have an appointed assistant (TA or student in the class)
to aid in setting up and putting away equipment for the class. This
gives the teacher more time to focus on the class, keeping them under control,
while explaining and starting the activity.

Effective ways of dealing with students who speak out of
place:
1) Teacher moves closer to that student,
while continuing to speak to the rest of the class.
2) Teacher will stop what he is saying
and ask the student that is speaking out of turn a
question about what was being talked about.
3) If the first two do not work, the
third way to stop interruptions is to single the student out, by
saying their name and asking them to stop talking. (David Backhouse)
