Organizational Strategies
Equipment
-
Equipment will be placed in several hula-hoops
on the stage or outside the playing area to keep equipment organized and
to minimize potential safety hazards.
-
The teacher will tell selected students (for
example, naming two students to distribute pinnies or asking only one person
from each partnership/group to obtain a ball) when it is alright to get
the equipment.
-
The teacher will select students at random
to collect and put away equipment at the end of the class.
-
The teacher will take inventory of equipment
before and after class to prevent loss or theft.
Groupings
-
The teacher will use several ways to establish
groups: numbering the students into groups/teams; asking students to select
partners; or building teams before class according to ability levels established
previously.
-
The teacher will attempt to vary the composition
of the groups to ensure that all students have the opportunity to work
one another at some point during the school year.
-
The teacher will attempt to keep the groups
as small as possible (as allowed for by available space) to maximize the
involvement of each individual during the task.
Use of Space
-
Space should be maximized while keeping safety
in mind.
-
Set clearly defined boundaries using lines
on the gym floor or pilons/cones.
-
The teacher should ensure that when speaking
to the class, he/she is facing the group and any distractions (for example,
the sun or game occuring on adjacent field); the students should be in
close enough proximity to hear the teacher's instructions.
