Organizational and Managerial Routines
Attendance:

Students should be changed in appropriate strip and seated in specified gym area two to three minutes after the bell has rung.

Every day a different student will be ask to run the attendance sheet down to the office

If a student is absent for “legitimate” medical problem, a written note explaining the problem must be given to the teacher on that day.

Students are expected to have strip each class, even if a medical note is provided.

Equipment:
  • The following equipment is required for this unit:
  • - 1 frisbee for each pair or group
  • - cones to mark playing area (different colour
  •   i.e. yellow and red to define different areas)
  •   - different colour pinnies
  • Each day the teacher will ask students to participate in setting-up and cleaning up equipment, those students who help will be given marks for effort.
  • Equipment is not to be given out to pairs or groups until instructions are given, this will avoid students playing with equipment and not focusing on lesson.
Rules:
  • Students must stop their activity when they hear the whistle
  • No gum or food is allowed during PE
  • Students are not allowed in equipment room unless instructed
Strip:
  • PE gym strip is required for every class
  • Students can wear any type of shorts with the exception of cut-offs
  • T-shirts, no tank tops are required
  • Socks and running shoes must be worn
  • Students are expected to go outside at all times, sweat suits are also acceptable.
Groupings:

There are many ways in which the teacher can form pairs or groups within the class-

  • Teacher selects students randomly
  • Group according to birth month, colour of hair, brand of shoe etc.
  • Go down attendance list
  • Make sure groups are gender mixed equally
  • Students chose their own groups

Teaching Tips:
  • Don't have your back to the groups, always have clear view of the playing areas
  • Don't speak to a group with them facing the sun, it will make it difficult for the students to focus and see
  • Speak directly and clearly, say exactly what you what and expect
  • When bringing a group in, don't begin speaking until you have everyone's attention
  • If a student is showing behavior problems, don't make them the center of attention, deal with them separately and away from group (don't give them "center stage")
  • Everyone must play by the same rules

Dismissal:
  • All equipment must be collected and put away by students before anyone is permitted to leave
  • Students are allowed 5 minutes to change at end of class
  • Students are not allowed into hallways until the bell has rung
