Tactical Problem: Attacking the Basket
Skill development: dribbling, passing, defending, lay up

Teaching Points

Tactic: 

       -cutting to the basket (When & How)
       -dribbling and to open space
       -getting open to receive pass
       -read teammates or oppositions actions in 
        order to determine where and how to pass 
        or receive ball
       -the appropriate time to complete each 
        type of pass
       -the appropriate time to dribble past defense
       -the best methods to prevent opposition from
        scoring

Skill:

       -cutting passed opponent
       -fundamentals of the lay up
       -chest pass, bounce pass, overhead pass
       -receiving pass
       -controlled dribble
       -dribble with each hand
       -triple threat
       -defensive positioning
 


 

 

Organizational Points

    *get students into groups of three according to 
      pinny color
    *max 3 dribble, then must pass
    *can add unlimited dribble if appropriate

How to Score?
     -1 point for every time team scores a lay up
     (must be a lay up for point)
     -see tactics above for ways to increase 
      scoring opportunities

How to Prevent Scoring?
     -defensive positioning skills
     -mark a check

How to Restart Play?
     -opposing team gets possession of the ball if 
      other team scores a lay up, knocks ball out of
      bounds or commits an obvious foul
