- Scope:
- Four lesson unit to introduce and develop the basic skills
needed to play touch rugby to a group of grade 5 and 6 students. Our intention
is to develop these skills with many drills, demonstrations, and effective
game play.
- Entry ability:
- The students knowledge of the game of rugby will be fairly
elementary but they will already possess the baility to catch and throw a
ball. These skills will not be as proficient as desired, but many demonstrations
and drills will hopefully increase accuracy and pass proficiency. As running
is an elementary skill in which all student possess to a good extent, most
drills will emphasize running with the ball or running to support teammates
to use what skills the student have while encorporating new tactics learned.
At the and
of the unit, the students should be able to pass accurately and run to create
space and support a teammate. A final touch rugby game will be played with
proper skills used and proficient team play. The students will be able to
perform such tasks as passing and moving, as well as understand the concepts
of space and depth. These skills will be transferable into many other sports
and will assist them in their future sport activities.
