Individual Dribbling
Game/Task Outline


Tactical Problem: Maintaining ball control.
Skill development: To dribble the ball with maximum control. To get comfortable using both feet, while keeping posture erect and demonstrating proper technique.

Teaching Points: 
  • Students are to understand the purpose of dribbling and how it is used in a game of soccer.
  • Using both sides of one foot.
  • Keep ball close to body, to maximize control.
  • Keep head up while dribbling.
  • Understand the weight transfer and force generation involved in dribbling. Must be balanced on the field in order to dribble effectively.

 

 


 
Students are instructed to dribble with right foot only at a walking pace. Speed increases on command. Once finished, left foot only. Students can monitor their own speed after they have finished right and left foot skills.

 
 

 

Organizational Points: 
  • Using the previous student assigned numbers from the Shadow Game, allow only the #1's to go get a ball.
  • Once they have received a ball, they must return to a sitting position with ball in their lap.
  • #2's are then allowed to get the necessary equipment and join the others.
  • Once instructions and demonstrations have been completed, the students are to firstly, dribble with only their right foot. Teacher blows the whistle once to increase speed and twice to stop.
  • Same instructions apply to the left foot and both feet.
  • Once the students receive succession, they can change their speed and dribbling foot without consent.
