Shadow Game With Ball
Game/Task Outline

Tactical Problem: To elude the defender.
Skill development: Maximum certainty of movements . Changes in direction and use of fakes to lose defender (shadow). Maximum ball control while attempting to elude shadow.

Teaching Points:
  • Leader wants to use movements that will elude follower (shadow).
  • Follower wants to keep a close distance to leader, this shows that this student can mark efficiently.
  • Follower wants to watch the hips of the leader, because that is the first body movement, which indicates the direction he/she is likely to go.
  • Maintain ball control by using short passes.
  • Keep head up to watch out for other students and objects.

Organizational Points:
  • In partners, the teacher asks for them to number themselves #1 and #2.
  • #1 is the leader and #2 is the shadow (follower).
  • Therefore #1 has the ball. One ball per pair.
  • Begin game at walking pace, jogging and then running.
  • Teacher indicates which pace is set, by simply yelling out the command (walk, etc.).
  • Teacher also indicates when to switch positions, by yelling switch or blowing on his/her whistle.
  • Once the students have practiced this game, the teacher can allow the students to monitor and change their speeds without the teacher's commands.
