Keep Away
Game/Task Outline

Tactical Problem: Maintaining ball control while aggressively attacking opponents.
Skill development: To dribble the ball with both feet under control, while attacking or disrupting opponents ball control.

Teaching Points:
  • Using both sides of one foot.
  • Keep ball close to body, to maximize control.
  • Keep head up while dribbling.
  • Create a threat for the other students by making them lose control of their ball, while keeping control of your ball.
  • Use open space to protect your ball, and attack opponents ball when you are in safe area. (i.e.. time to attack others, and protect your ball)
  • Kick opponents ball out of the grid to eliminate them from the game. Last student with control of their ball in the grid wins.
  • Use shielding to protect your ball, and free foot to attack opponents ball.

Similar to lesson one's small grid tag, but there is no defender. Every student has a ball and tries to kick out opponent's ball. Last student with a ball wins.

Organizational Points:
  • Set up grid according to the size of the class. This game can either be played in small or large groups. Grid must allow for free space.
  • As players begin to get eliminated decrease the size of the grid, forcing the remaining students to engage on each other.
  • Eliminated students collect their ball, and start a new game in another grid.
  • Game starts on teachers whistle, and ends with last student with ball.
