Use a tactical perspective to introduce and develop concepts
and skills for beginners within a four lesson grade 8 basketball unit.

throw and catch a ball in a game situation

dribble (had to look at the ball)

score with limited accuracy

1. Limited support play and defensive positioning
2. Difficulty maintaining possession of ball
3. Difficulty creating space and performing triple threat

Ability to dribble effectively in a heads up position:
1. Guarding the ball with non dribbling hand
2. Attacking the basket with various dribbling
techniques
3. Faking
Ability to pass with consistency:
1. Chest pass, bounce pass, overhead pass
2. Identifying space, time and force variables
Ability to maintain possession:
1. Triple Threat
2. Off-the-ball movements to create passing lanes
3. Faking
Ability to perform efficient defensive positioning:
1. Staying between basket and opponent
2. Cutting off passing lanes with active hands and
feet
3. Staying low, wide base, hands up
Ability to perform proper slide technique
