Managerial Routines
Equipment:
- Nets set up prior to class arriving to maximizing time on task.
- Only students instructed to get equipment are permitted to do so.
- All balls silent on ground during instruction times.
- Students asked to place balls in proper location (not throw across the
gym).
- No horse-play around nets or poles
- Use equipment properly, don't sit on balls, hang from nets, climb on
posts, etc.
Procedures
- Attendance
- students placed into teams prior to class, teams are listed on chalk
board and names are ticked off as students arrive.
- Attendance records viewable by all students before and after every
class.
- Unexplained absences will result in the loss of marks.
- Clean-up and Dismissals
- students return all equipment, and take down nets. Teacher
should know how many balls were in the bin prior to the lesson, and how
many balls are in the bin at the end of lesson.
- Class should end with sufficient time to allow the collection of
equipment and time to change between classes.
- Teacher Positioning
- Where possible don't turn back to the majority of students,
however it is necessary to place yourself in a position to observe
individual students while maintaining control over the rest of the
class.
Groupings
- Depending on the class, different grouping strategies are
necessary. Some classes may require significantly more direction
when choosing partners or group members, while other groups will
require minimal direction from the teacher. Grouping done by the
teacher should be an unbiased process, whereby students aren't grouped
based on their skill level or other external factors. Regularly
changing groups is an effective way to promote class unity; while
minimizing dependence on cliques.
Classroom rules
- Established early within the class by the teacher.
However, a socially advanced class would be able to establish their
own rules for conduct within the class room environment. This
may create a sense of self-policing of rules by the students.
