Push Pass
Push Pass
Stage 1 - Preparatory
Stage 3 - Force
Stage 2 - Wind Up
Stage 4 - Recovery
In the preparatory phase the athlete should be balanced on the balls of their feet. The stick is held with the stick face down, ready to accept a pass or intercept a ball. Knees are bent and weight is balanced between the back foot and the front foot.
In the wind up phase the stick is held beside the back foot. The stick is held at an angle to the floor, protecting the ball. Both legs are bent low to generate power. From the front view you can see that the weight is transfered to the back leg, a key element to creating optimal power behind the hit. The Hand are held at the top of the stick and midway down the shaft of the stick for control. Feet are pointed in the direction that the pass will be made.
In the force phase the ball is pushed through from the back leg to the front leg. This transfer of weight is key to generating power during the push pass. The ball is kept on the middle of the stick face, and pushed in a straight line. The weight transfer can be seen from stage 2 to stage 3.
In the recovery phase the student completes the push pass by following through on the ball. The stick is extended out in front of the athlete with the rounded side towards the sky. This prevents the ball from being raised during the pass. Weight of the body is fully transfered to the front of the body, and arms should be fully extended. Stick should be pointing in the desired direction of the pass, if it is pointing to the right or left the ball will travel in that direction as well.
