Lesson focus: Cradling and Scooping


Introductory task/game

Rob the Nest  without a stick

1.4 teams of 3 players

2.4 hula hoops placed in the corners of the court with 3 balls in each hula hoop

3.Each teams objective is to take the balls from the opposing teams nest and place them in their own

4.Players can pass the ball but must give up the ball if they are tagged by another player

Stretching!!


Skill/Concept development tasks/games

Cradling as a class do a lap of the field. Each player has a ball. The players will line up spread out and weave in and out of each other. Player at the front of the line starting and remaining at the end of the line.

One lap to get used to it, one lap split into teams and race!

Scooping Start in pairs, passing on the ground back and forth.

Shuttle Passing

Line up in groups of 4

Roll the ball to opposing player and follow your pass, add a defender, cut around defender and pass the ball

Competitive ground balls four lines, Have Angela help out with this one. Roll the ball between two lines, the two players must compete to scoop the ball up and run it over the end line.

(Make sure players go against different opponents each time)



Culminating Game:

Rob the Nest With sticks

1.The same game as previously played except with sticks added in

2.Instead of tagging the ball must be intercepted or stolen from the opposing players

3.Players must scoop the ball into their stick

4.Players should attempt to cradle the ball while running during this game

(Moving to space, passing and catching)

Lesson focus: Passing and Catching


Introductory task/game

•     British Bull Dog (practicing cradling around a defender)

•Two people in the middle to start

•Run from one side of the field to the next without dropping or loosing your ball

•If ball stolen or dropped, go to middle and “it”


Skill/Concept development tasks/games

End-ball: (with lacrosse sticks)

•One game, two teams of 10

•Object to get ball into opposing teams territory for a point

•Can’t run with the ball

(using space, spreading out, finding the open team mate)

Overhead Passing:

•Technique

•4 squares

•Groups of 3

End-ball: (with lacrosse sticks)

•Play End-ball again

Catching:

•Technique

•4 squares

•Groups of 4

•Piggy in the middle

•Adding a defender


Culminating Game:

•     End-ball: (with lacrosse sticks)

•Once a team scores a point the end zone decreases by a couple feet

•YOU CAN RUN WITH THE BALL

Lesson 3

Lesson Focus:Refining passing and catching , introduction to tactics


Introductory Task/game

Rob the NEST:

•Full length of the field, run, cradle, pass, and catch in order to have your teams nest full of balls when time runs out

British Bulldog:

•Two or three people in the middle try to check players that are crossing the field


Skill/Concept development tasks/games

Passing & Catching :

•Pass back and forth working on technique

•Make ten complete passes

oCount out loud

oNot aloud to hit the ground

•Make 5 passes in a row

•Don’t forget this is for team points!


Baseball Drill (passing) (15min):

•Team in the field MUST have every player receive a pass (one touch) and LAST pass to home plate before the player can run around the “bases”

•Play two innings

•Highest score wins


Cutting (15min):

•L cut

•C cut

•V cut

•I Cut

•Groups of three try cutting and passing to player on the move

•Add defender

•As defender stay between player and the “goal”

Switch up players


Culminating Game

End-Ball Tourney:

•4 teams of 4, 2 games at a time

•2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie

•1st tie breaker is point for

  1. 2nd tie breaker is points against

Lesson Focus:Shooting and offensive/defensive skills


Introductory Task/game

Defense and offense, man to man. Players in partners. Front partner with the ball, tries to lose defender (behind them) and throw the ball over their shoulder so their partner can’t catch it. If defender catches ball players switch.

End ball (Using smaller end zones)

•End zone small box on either end of the field (can play behind net)

•One game, two teams of 10

•Object to get ball into opposing teams territory for a point

•Can’t run with the ball


Skill/Concept development tasks/games

Defense Drill Zig-zag lines down the field. Girls in partners, one with a ball on offense, one without a ball on defense. Players make there way from cone to cone working on cradling and defense. (get low to the ground on defense in ready position)

Shooting drill semi circle around net, each girl take a shot ( give girls a chance to have 5 – 10 shots each. Shooting progression from a pass, more aggressive, harder. Not lobbed (the girls did more lobbed passes) hard and straight.

Shooting and passing  3 lines (one on end line and 2 20 yards out) player with ball passes to side player, then to end-line and back to original player who shoots.

Progress into the end-line player becoming defender (2 on 1) All players alternate line after each turn. Defender start with the ball (pass out to partners)


Culminating Game

Progression from End-ball  The girls haven’t had a chance to actually shoot on nets. Progressing into a real lacrosse game. Practicing shooting and using the field. Working on all the skills we learnt.
