Unit Outcomes: The following four lessons are designed for a grade 9 boys volleyball unit. Through the course of the lessons the students will learn three basic volleyball skills (The forearm pass, overhead pass, and underhand serve). Both on and off-the-ball movement concepts will also be addressed. It is expected that students will end the unit with a change in their previous volleyball skill levels.


Entry Outcomes:


Prior to the beginning of the four lessons, it is expected that ...

  1. -Students will have previous basic knowledge and experiences of the volleyball game

  2. -Students will have limited ability to control the flight path of the ball

  3. -Students game performance will be limited by their basic skill-set and knowledge

  4. -Students will have a wide range of athleticism

  5. -Students previous knowledge of volleyball tactics will be limited

  6. -Students cooperation as a team will not be developed


Exit Outcomes:


By the end of the four lessons, it is expected that ...

  1. -Students will show a change in skill ability, when performing the forearm pass and overhead pass

  2. -Students will be able to control the flight of the ball to an intended target

  3. -Students will have been introduced to the basics of underhand serving to facilitate game-play

  4. -Students will have increased knowledge on tactics involved with on and off-ball movements e.g. releasing to the net

  5. -Students will have increased understanding and ability to work cooperatively as a team


Prescribed Learning Outcomes Achieved:

Based upon the BC Ministry of Education IRP’s - Physical Education Grade 8 - 10.
