Lesson 1 - Open space & Passing
Lesson 1 - Open space & Passing
diagram Task & Progressions CUES
Narrowest Gates
-In partners, pass the puck between two cones
-Start with cones about 4 feet apart and stand about 5 feet from cones
-With five consecutive successful passes, decrease the distance between cones by 1 foot; continue until 8” apart
-If miss 2 times in a row, increase the distance between the cones by 1 foot
4 Corners A
-In groups of 4, set up a square with 4 cones about 6 feet apart
-3 players in the square; the fourth acts as a coach and modifies the game to increase or decrease difficulty
-The players without the ball adjust their position to make the triangle of support
-Person with ball passes to other player and then adjusts to then again make the triangle of support
-Switch the “coach” when appropriate
4 Corners B
-Set up the same as “A”
-One of the players without the ball runs to the open cone
-The player with the ball passes the ball to the player that has moved after he/she has reached the cone
4 Corners C
-Set up the same as “A”
-One of the players without the ball runs to the open cone
-The player with the ball passes to the moving player before he/she has reached the destination cone
-When moving player receives ball, he/she stick handles to the cone then distributes a pass when another player moves to an open cone
Mass Pass
-3 or 4 groups of 4 players
-In the designated area, players pass to own teammates
-Pass around other players in the grid
-Do not intercept others balls
-Create 4 teams & set up 2 playing areas
-Use substitutions if there are more than 4 players on each team
-Emphasize finding and making space for self and teammates
-Score by directing a pass towards the bench
-4 consecutive passes required before attempting to score on the bench
Narrowest Gate
-Head up
-Follow through to target
-Control with stick, not feet
-Non-dominant foot forward
4 Corners A
-Head up
-Cushion pass
-Call for pass
4 Corners B
-Head up when passing and running
-Keep passes on ground
-Call for pass when reached cone
4 Corners C
-Keep head up
-Keep ball close to stick
-Absorb the pass
-Communicate with passer
Bench Endball
-Use full playing area
-Keep head up
-Communicate
Mass Pass
-Keep head up
-Move into open area
-Continue to move
-Lead pass slightly ahead of moving target
