Lesson 3 - offensive & defensive strategies
diagram Task & Progressions CUES
Bean Bag Tag
-In pairs, one has a bean bag
-Within the designated area, the player with the bean bag tries to out maneuver the player that is following
-Toss bean bag above head heigh and chasing partner tries to catch the bean bag in the air
-Switch positions
Abandon Ship!
-4 “ships” and shark infested ocean
-Select 2-4 players as “sharks”; rest of students are pirates (own stick and ball)
-Yell “abandon ship” and the pirates must stick handle to another ship
-Sharks try to remove the ball from the pirates; ball must be passed from the playing area
-Repeat until 1 pirate remains
-Split students into teams
-Give offending and defending teams 1 minute to create a strategy
-1 less defender than gates; defenders try to tag offending team in the attacking zones
-Offenders try to get through gates without being tagged; cannot be tagged in the safe zone
-Offensive players cannot return to the safe zone after they have left
-Jog back the start if tagged or score; try to score again
-First time, have students run; then progress to using sticks and balls
Stay At Home Defense
-Split students into 4 teams
-Each team splits into 3 offensive; and 5 defensive players (will switch off/def each time the team rotates out)
-Offensive players start with ball and choose a direction to attack
-Use offensive and defensive strategies to score and prevent scoring, respectively
-After one shot on goal, the offense retrieves the ball and attacks the other set of defense
-Continue until whistle blows; switch teams (and rotate who is offense/defense while waiting for next turn)
