Warm-up activity:

Beanbag game

- students partner up and grab one beanbag between two

- define the space that the students can play in

- beanbag partner is trying to move to space and escape their trailing partner

- beanbag partner scores a point if they stop, throw the beanbag over their head and have it land on the ground within 1 foot of their heel

- the trailing partner catches the beanbag before it hits the ground, the partners switch roles.

skill objective: moving to open areas to receive a pass to score

 

4-dot game

- 4 dots are laid out in the gym and players get into groups of 3

  1. -one player has a ball and the other two don’t

  2. -the player with the ball passes to one of the two partners, and moves to the open dot

  3. -process is repeated

  4. -increase space to add difficulty.


Player should:

call for the ball

keep their heads up while passing to look for teammates to pass to

be in an athletic stance, with knees bent and a good base of support

move into open space


Modified end ball

  1. -same as before, but ask students why they want to get to space instead of clustering around the ball

  2. -reinforce teaching points of 4-dot game

Skill development through games:

Modified end ball

- students are divided into two teams, each team wearing a different colour pinny and each player having a floor hockey stick

- one player from each team moves into their respective end zone

- to score, a team must pass to their player in the end zone,

- to prevent scoring, the defending team must intercept a pass to gain possession of the ball

- when a team scores, the players switch so there is a new player in the end zone and the other team gain possession of the ball

- only one player is allowed in the end zone at a time,

- no defenders allowed in the end zone

- if the ball goes out of play, there is a change in possession

- players can take three steps without being checked, after which they can get checked
