Extension/Refinement Opportunities:


  1. -this game may be played by simply tossing the ball, using the forearm pass, overhead pass, roll shot, or any combination of skills to emphasize what you are working on


  1. -increasing the size of the ball or target would decrease difficulty while decreasing the size of the ball or target increases difficulty

Aim: Score by having the ball you send land on the

        target spot


Rules:


  1. 1.To score, the ball must land on the spot

  2. 2.To restart, non-scoring player gets to hit the ball first

  3. 3.Playing area is anywhere near the goal spot


Cues:

  1. -get low, under the ball

  2. -move in relation to your partner

  3. -anticipate where the ball and teammate will be


Aim: To have the ball bounce on your opponent’s side before they can return it.


Rules:

  1. 1.Bounce the ball on your side of the line and across to your opponent

  2. 2.Score a point if your opponent does not catch the ball

  3. 3.After you score your opponent starts with the ball


Cues:

1 vs. 1

        - get low with knees bent                                                

        - shuffle feet, don’t turn and run

        - prepare to catch the ball

        - anticipate where the ball will go

2 vs. 2

        - same as above

        - release to the net

        - move in relation to partner

        - “1, 2 over”

Aim: To have the ball bounce on you opponent’s side before the can return it


Rules:

  1. 1.Game starts with a serve or a bounce

  2. 2.Must pass twice before bouncing over

  3. 3.To score the ball must touch the ground on your opponent’s side

  4. 4.When you are scored on you serve the ball

  5. 5.Ball must be released from shoulder height


Cues:

  1. -stable base, knees bent

  2. -release to the net

  3. -move in relation to your partner

  4. -anticipate where the ball, your opposition, and teammate will be

  5. -bounce the ball HIGH


Extension/Refinement Opportunities:


  1. -it is possible to change the first, second, and third touches to alter the difficulty level of the game


First Touch - catch, forearm pass, or overhead

                  pass

Second Touch - catch, forearm pass, or

                       overhead pass

Third Touch - catch and bounce or roll shot


  1. -these may be used in any combination to emphasize the skill you are working on, i.e.:

    catch - catch - catch - bounce

    catch - catch - roll shot

    forearm pass - catch - catch - bounce

    overhead pass - catch - catch - bounce

    forearm pass - forearm pass - catch - bounce

    overhead pass - overhead pass - catch - bounce

    forearm pass - overhead pass - catch bounce

    forearm pass - overhead pass - roll shot


- when students are comfortable with the above combinations progress to a 2 vs. 2 game over the net

  1. -adjust the size of the line using spots or cones


  1. -decreasing the line size will increase challenge while increasing the line size will decrease challenge


  1. -have one set of partners join another set to play a 2 vs 2 game using the same rules as above
