BADMINTON
- The content analysis for our unit consists of a variety of skills and concepts which we wanted the students to learn throughout the course of the unit. This content includes tactical problems, off the ball movements and on the ball skills for offense and scoring, transition between play, defense and starting and re- starting play. This content analysis is linked to our block plan though the use of games and other teaching strategies (asking questions, student demonstration) to emphasize the specific tactical skills that we wanted to cover in the unit.
Tactical Problems
Offense & Scoring
-Keep birdie of the ground when it is in your territory
-Hit the birdie so it lands in bounds in your opponents territory
-Force opponents to move to hit the birdie
Transition
-After making a shot into your opponents territory, recovering to the appropriately in order to make another successful shot
Defense
-Defending your territory
-Hit the birdie before it lands in your side of the court
Starting & Restarting
-Serving (begin game)
-Restart by serving (switch with teammate in doubles after a score is made)
-Restart from violations
On-the-Ball Movements
-Hitting (overhead, smash, drop shot)
-Accuracy of shot (where did you want the birdie to land?)
-Hit the birdie away from opponents position on the court, forcing them to move
-Using correct footwork
-Recover to the “T” or middle of the court.
-Hit birdie into your opponents territory before it lands in your territory
-Use appropriate shot for situation in game
-Hit birdie onto the ground in opponents territory
-Serving & Receiving
-Accuracy of shots
Off-the-Ball Movements
-Recover to the middle of the court
-Use correct footwork
-Know proper stance
-Reacting to opponents shots
-Force opponent to move
- Be in the “ready position”; feet staggered
-Position yourself on “T”
-Correct footwork
-Ready position
-Know your opposition, read the serve
-Racquet up and ready to return birdie
