Castle Game Outline

Tactical Problem:  Keep the ball bouncing in an area
Skill development: Side-stepping,  basic forehand stroke and ready position.

Teaching Points 
Tactic  
  • Hit high for time
  • Relocate opposite side of partner's target
  • Look for where the ball will land
  • As advance sometimes hit away from target
Skill  
  • Face partner
  • Feet shoulder width apart
  • Push-off outside foot
  • Hit the ball as it falls after bounce
  • Shift weight from back foot to front
  • Use comfortable grip - Eastern forehand recommended

Organizational 
  • Bouncy balls of  med. to small size
  • Pair up students, numer one and two:

  • One get ball and cone, two find a space 
  • Rule 1 "Ball must bounce once"
  • Rule 2 "Ball must be hit up"
  • Rule 2 "Ball must be hit above shoulder height"
  • Start with hands then introduce short handled rackets
  • Play co-operative "First pair to hit cone."
  • Compete with partner doing 5 jumping jacks the cone is hit.
  • As players advance define the space to be used
