PE352 LIST-SERVE discussion group         (15%)

 

PURPOSE:  This assignment is to enable you to dialogue with your colleagues in the class to develop a shared meaning and understanding of the concepts and experiences offered in the course.  The assignment will also enable you to become familiar with using an electronic mailing system.

 

DESCRIPTION

Within the first week of class you are expected to log onto the class listserv in groups A, B or C.  To log onto the listserv if in group A:

(In the message area on the first line type)

SUB PE352A Tim Hopper  (Except WRITE YOUR NAME instead of Tim Hopper)

 

Later in the day, you will receive a reply saying you have been logged onto the listserv, PE352A.  From then on, you receive e-mail from the PE352A discussion group.  When you wish to reply to an e-mail simply open the e-mail and then click on "reply to all."  Your reply will be sent to the listserv, with the subject title, to be circulated to the rest of the class.

 

EXPECTATIONS

For this assignment you are expected to respond to the e-mail once every two weeks.  Within the class, you will get into groups of twelve or thirteen.  Each member of the group will be given responsibility for managing the listserv discussion for a one-week period.  In total you should make 9 entries on the listserv, one every two-weeks and four times as listserv manager.

 

REQUIREMENTS

Each two-week period has been assigned reading from the course text.  For one-week period you are expected to read ahead of the class and set an open question to initially focus the listserv discussion.  Whenever possible try to connect the question to course experiences (in class or in the school) and readings.  Consult the course lecturer if you have concerns or need to discuss an idea you have has a group.  The course lecturer will also be involved in the listserv on a limited basis.  You should be facilitating discussion on at least four days in your period as listserv manager.  A running total of your entries on the listserv will be noted.  If you fail to log on in a three-week period you will not get a mark for that three-week period.

 

GRADING

10% of this assignment is pass/fail.  10% of marks will be awarded if criteria for assignment are met by Friday, March 22nd.  The final 5% of marks will be awarded for 250-word read-back reflection on personal contribution to listserv.  The focus of the read-back should be evidence of personal growth and development based on the intents of the course and your personal entries on the listserv. The readback, with a copy of your all your entries, must be handed in to be eligible for full marks.
