PERFORMANCE FEEDBACK (Mosston and Ashworth Terminology)

Feedback statements: (1) value statements: "word (or symbol) that projects a value or a feeling about the performance.” (may be positive or negative) (2) Corrective statements: "a statement that identifies an error and provides information on how to correct the error.” (3) Neutral statements: "a factual description of what performer has done.” (4) Ambiguous statements: "words/phrases that do not provide precise information about performance.” (5) Extension statements: "words/phrases” that help performer "extend" an already good performance."

Feedback sequence: (1) Open with a positive...."value statement” (2) Identify/describe what performer is doing correctly (USE YOUR CRITICAL CUES AS YOUR GUIDE). (3) CORRECTIVE OR EXTENSION (DEPENDING ON PERFORMANCE) (4) VERIFY (stay and watch to see if next performance improves as a result of your feedback) (5) Depending on performance in (4) stay and give more feedback OR "move on."
