WALKABOUT ROAD REPORTS
Week 8
Well, here you into the final week of competition. Yes this is it.
The Leaders, COUSaders and Red Hot Chili Steppers, are camped out in
Thunder Bay, ready for the speed walk to Ottawa.
However, A-team has made progress poised for a final challenge in Kenora.
The chasing pack is vying for positions looking to catch the judges
eye for the other prizes. Of note is the E-walks who have burst out of
BC from 9th into 6th place on the Heals of the FanTENNSTic 5. They
have left Ped Ed's, 2nd Floor Steppers and Fool's Rush stunned in
Banff.
Closing date for scores is Mon Nov 25th. Send in you social and
improvement scores. Last chance for that winning picture.

Week 6
Race is on
After a short fly over of the course I can report on each teams progress.
Got2walk are still waiting to put in their steps.
Ped Ed's have started to gather momentum and are sure to make a surge soon.
However, 3 teams (2nd floor steppers, Fool's rush in and E-walks) are
now battle for supremacy on the roads to and from Banff. In fact, the
jostling has been so fierce that several walkers received black eyes
from high elbows.
FanTENNIStic 5 have taken hold of 5th place, despite injuries to team
members. Working on the double/double option they are determined to
take advantage of the bonus scoring to take 4th place.
Twinkle toes are in 4th place and are starting to prepare to launch
into Saskatewan. "A" team, tired from chasing the leading pair and
from too many pub crawls are resting Saskatoon.
In the lead, engaged in a tight fight for supremacy, are the Red Hot
Chilli steppers. The COUSaders briefly led through Brandon, but due
to too many tourist stops lost the lead again to the Steppers who have
crossed the border into Ontario.
Race is on...
Double/Double for another week Nov 12th to 19th.
Dear Walkers
For the week Nov 5 to Nov 12 you can score double points two ways in DOUBLE/DOUBLE:
1. As we have been doing, any walking with your team-mates means you score double points for that perambulation
2. You also score double points for walking with anyone else who is the team walkabout competition.
So, yes, if you walk with a teammate and a player from another team you score double + double again.
Honestly, that is right, for example 1000 steps with a teammate and another team player and you would score 2 x 1000 + 2 x 1000 = 4000 steps.
So come on, let's get social and speed across Canada.

Week 5
Dear Walkers.
Well, it is quite remarkable. Every team is showing, put in very different ways. You have to check out the website and the team pics.
http://www.educ.uvic.ca/Faculty/thopper/walkabout/home.html
First of all the leaders...
Well who is it? One minute the Cousaders stroll into the lead, taking time to visit the Egg in Vegreville, then the Red Hot Chilli Steppers, thanks to the guide help from the Ped Ed's, sneek into a lead and cruise down to Regina.
The chasing Pack...
The A team, close in third decided to go on a pub crawl in Calgary, but then the closing pack has started to catch them so they have launch into a strict "no drinking" walking campaign. The chasing pack all resting in Kimberly are getting ready for the sprint across the boarder into Alberta.
The fair weather walkers...
The E-walks and the Got2walk are taking it easy, particularly the Got2walk team who were seen resting on a Park Bench in warm Midway. The rumour is that they plan to do all their walking in BC where the weather is more acceptable.
As for social teams well Twinkle Toes and "A" team (pub crawl bonus not included yet) are very tight, with the Red Hot Chilli steppers showing very well. As for the rest, I think we need to send in those social scores.
Keep looking for important announcement in next weeks competition.
DOUBLE/DOUBLE coming.
Event Man.Week 5
I was trying to think of a story we had of the five of us walking... the most exciting one that came to mind was the pub crawl!!
It's too bad, with all the excitement, we all forgot to wear our pedometers. It would have been interesting to see how much we "walked" on a "crawl"!!
The A-Team was out in full force, with Deanna the Pirate, Calie the Goddess, Carmelle the Flapper, Tanya the Referee, and Kristi as Medussa.
The only way we could have made it better would be to ditch the busses in between and actually walk from bar to bar... or crawl...Week 4
Dear Walkers
The race has reached a fever pitch of intensity. The leading group has entered Alberta with an incredible surge from the 'A' team, who have signaled their intent to be number one - see this weeks picture, none too subtle if you ask me. The Cousaders seeing the 'A' team pulled their act together have regained the lead using the backroads in Calgary with the help of their GPS units. However, the Red Hot Chilli Steppers are keeping up a steady and determined pace. At present the lead teams are camped out in Olds with the contenders resting in a luxury Hotel in Calgary.
Not far behind we have a second group of four teams located in Nelson and Kimberly. These teams are starting to show some real momentum. The rumour is that all team members have just realized how to enter their steps and this has resulted in several exchanges of positions. FanTENNISTIC 5 and Twinkle Toes are neck and neck with barely 100 steps between the teams, and close behind are the 2nd Floor steppers and Fool's Rush In who are racing for elbow room on the single lane highway to Kimberly.
Bringing up the rear, but not out of contention are the PED Eds, E-walks and Got2Walk. It seems that they have yet to fully realize their steps with several bonus scores yet to be entered. These teams are using the slow and cautious approach before showing the opposition what they have to offer. The Ped Eds are posting some amazing improvement scores so look out.
Coming soon Cousaders picture.

Social Conveynors send me your bonus scores, only 3 teams entered in the Social score table so far.
Also, stories real and possible welcomed:)
Keep on Walking

(i think) story for Red Hot Chili Steppers, and Natalie asked me to
send this photo with the story:
This week, we were interrupted at the beginning of our art class by a fire
alarm. Although it was just a drill, we still got to see the pretty red
fire truck, and got a few extra bonus points as we "stepped" in place
trying to keep warm.
Week 2
This week was pretty busy for our group, so and I wasn't able to go for a
walk with the whole group. On friday, however, Nicci and I both had to
catch a ferry right after PE class to go to Vancouver. When we arrived at
the ferry terminal, Nicci and I bet how many steps it would take us to
walk onto and off the ferry into Tsawassan. Nicci thought it would take
2000 and I thought it would take 1500. For those interested, it takes
1,159 steps to board and unboard the ferry, with only the walking of one
trip to the bathroom while onboard the ferry (we were busy studying).
Next time, we'll have to get some more steps/bonus points by walking
around the ferry for a while during the 1.5 hour trip.Week 1
On Tuesday, the five ‘Red Hot Chili Steppers’ had planned to go for a
walk after PE class. We headed from the McKinnon building across campus,
and by the time we reached the MacLaurin building, where we were going to
grab a bite to eat, I realized that I forgot my sketchbook for art class
in the PE gym. Being nice girls that they are, Nicci, Chelsea and
Natalie offered to walk back to help me look for it. When we got back to
the gym, there was already a class in there so I decided that it would be
a good idea to return at 1:20 when the class would be leaving. So again,
we headed off for the MacLaurin building to pass the time until 1:20 when
I would have to return to look for my sketchbook. All of the trips back
and forth across campus ended up being great for our bonus points, and
although I didn’t find my sketchbook that day, it was very nice spending
time with our walking group and getting to know everyone better.
I would also like to mention that although these pedometers might not be
designed for skirt-wearing-women, they are very durable. Mine
accidentally went through the washing machine cycle when I washed my
walking pants, but it survived to count my steps today. :)
Week 1
Well we're off, some are more off than others but the race is on.
Unfortunately, I could not get into every team's account to note progress but I did manage it for 5 teams. I need the exact team ID and password to see your team account.
Check progress on website
http://www.educ.uvic.ca/Faculty/thopper/walkabout/home.html
If your team location is not listed then Captain send me the ID and Password EXACTLY as you have in your account.
However, the team that has raced into a lead in several categories is the Red Hot Chilli steppers. They have 2 pics, a story, social points and if I could log into their account I am sure they may already be at Nelson. So we have the early pace setters.
Make sure you have entered your steps and send your social points to your social rep. FanTENNIStic 5 have 0 social at present, that is my team, but that will change.
