Content Analysis of a Lay-up
The lay up is a skill emphasized in our unit. It is one of the only times in a basketball game where a single player has complete control over the pace and speed of the game.
The preparatory phase includes the approach toward the hoop. It is important for the students to understand what foot to begin on.
In the force generating phase the student is on the inside foot and is getting the ball ready in both hands.
In the take-off phase the student drives the outside leg, or leg closest to the net up along with the arm closest to the net. The motion is like a rubber band as the elbow and knee work together as one. The student shoots the ball close to the backboard and the hoop as they can.
