Scope and Sequence
These lesson plans were designed for a standard grade six physical education class. There is a wide variety of skill and athleticism at this age. Some students have had a lot of basketball experience while some have only learned basketball in previous physical education classes. The lesson plans emphasized the TGFU approach in hope that students would become more proficient at off the ball movements and on the ball skills as the lessons progressed.
Lesson Plan Objectives
Entry Level
- Most students can only dribble with dominant hand. Have difficulties when moving and dribbling,
- Few students can perform a lay-up with proper technique.
- Many students shoot with limited success and poor technique.
- Most can perform chest pass but have difficulties with bounce passes (space).
- Limited understanding of territory invasion games.
- Limited understanding of off the ball movements and tactical awareness.
- Respect of self, classmates, teachers, and equipment.
- Understand the need for off the ball movements.
- Know when and why to perform on the ball skills.
- Understand team concept and how to support teammates.
- Becoming more proficient at performing the proper dribbling technique with both hands.
- Able to perform a bounce pass and chest pass when stationary and moving.
- Can perform proper shooting technique even with limited shot success rate.
- Can stick with a check and prevent opponent from getting open.
- Responsible for getting and putting away equipment.
- Able to answer questions regarding skills and tactics.
