Competitive Ground-balls with a shot
Purpose: Develop basic defensive skills in lacrosse, which will contribute to helping prevent opponents from attacking.
Rules:
1)Get students to form two lines on separate sides of the teacher.
2)The teacher will have all the balls and be set up on the sideline of the playing field at the half way point.
3)Have a goal net set up on the side line, but far enough from the line ups.
4)The teacher will roll a ball into the playing area and the students at the front of the line will run out and compete 1 vs 1 for the ground-ball.
5)The player that picks it up becomes the attacker and run towards the goal net.
6)The unsuccessful player becomes the defender and aims to block the attackers shot or obstruct the attackers shot.
7)The attacker only gets one shot.
8)Absolutely no stick or body contact.
9)Stick must be vertical and 1 metre away from attacking player.
10) 4 second carry limit.
11) No covering or trapping on ground-balls.
Rules:
- Can make it 2 vs 2 or 3 vs 3.
- Can add a goaltender or change the size of the net.
- Can throw out more than one ball if it is 3 vs 3.
