Lesson 4: Introduction to Defense and Offense

Objectives (SWBAT)

Cognitive: understand the use and importance of using and moving into space

Associative: work co-operatively with a team to adapt court sizes and communicate passes

Psychomotor: demonstrate quick movement to open space and proper pass technique by holding the stick appropriately to achieve this.

Task & Progressions

Chinese Gates

To begin this warm up, students will start at the first individual gate, and try to make it through to the end without getting tagged.  The first attempt through the gates will be done walking, both the runners and the defenders are to walk.  Once this has been completed, everyone grab a stick and it will be repeated at a faster pace.  Defenders do not have a stick.  Can only be within first 2 feet of the goals they are defending.

5 on 4 Offense

The object of the game is to score on the single net.  Rules

1. One person, who is given a unique coloured pinny, is always on offense, regardless of which team has possession. 

2. 3 passes must be made before the offensive team can shoot on net

  1. 3.If the ball is knocked out, the other team has possession.

  2. 4.You cannot steal the ball from a player, only intercept passes.

P1- The amount of passes can increase or decrease

P2 - allow the students to start checking the people with the ball


Target Trouble

The object of the game is to score by knocking down one of the two targets. 

Rules

  1. 1.Teams cannot enter the safe zone surrounding the target.

  2. 2.If the ball is knocked out, the other team has possession.

  3. 3.  Teams must make 5 passes before they can shoot

P1 - Increase (or decrease depending on the student’s grasp) the number of passes necessary before you can pass

P2- May have to allow or not allow full checking and give the person with the ball a chance to try to make a play.


End Ball

The object of the game is to pass a ball to a teammate that is standing over the score line.

Rules:

  1. 1.Cannot move while carrying the ball

  2. 2.Cannot contact the player with the ball while on defense

  3. 3.Must make 5 passes before they can shoot
