Lesson 1
Introducing lateral movement and return to base position.
Skill focus
Using the net shot with proper form and correct skill execution.
Lesson focus:
Introduce movement to the net to drop the birdie into opponents court.
Introductory task/game
Skill/Concept development tasks/games
Culminating Game:
-Game: one v. one games but restricted to the net shot, no overhand shots
-Rules: players must score by hitting net shots landing in opposition’s small court.
- Use half court, short court, net shot only.
Rules:
Game starts with underhand serve.
Point is won when bird hits the opponent’s side.
Game is to 5 points. 1 point for hitting opponent’s ground.
Game is automatically won if opponent can drop the birdie on the top of the net and have it tumble over to hit ground.
Part 2
-Call Students in and ask students what made it easier to execute the “net shot”
-Teach the 4 points of a net shot:
1) Student should be in lunge position with extended racquet arm
2) Racquet face should be parallel to the floor
3) Racquet foot should be forward, when taking each shot
4) Hit and land at the same time: Hit the shuttle and land with your racquet foot at the same time
GAME
-Students will go play the same game, and think about the 4 points
-Rules: As stated above.
-Modifications: Increase court area. Add in spots that have to be hit. If one spot is hit, they have to try and hit the next one. This incorporates angles net shots.
