Course Description

This course provides a foundation to build on through experiences and knowledge gained through coursework, and school-based experiences. The course provides opportunities to reflect on your development as teachers, to work collaboratively with peers and teachers in the field, and gain greater understanding of the micro and macro aspects of teaching.

Course Objectives

To develop a philosophy of teaching that integrates personal and professional values, knowledge, and experience in a specific school context
to develop understanding of the multi-faceted teacher’s role
To provide an educational setting that enables the interweaving of theoretical and practical understandings gained through coursework, field experiences, and past personal experiences and knowledge
To examine the impact of social and societal issues on classroom structure, curriculum, and practice
to explore a range of diversity in our schools and develop awareness and skills in working with all learners
To continue development of professional portfolio
to develop skills in planning, management, and instruction broadly across subject areas; to draw upon significant documents such as curriculum guides, IRPs, and resource documents
