Chemistry 434-634 focuses on the relationship between the structures of organic compounds and their useful functions in biological or technological applications. The emphasis will be on structural properties of individual molecules and on the fundamentals of intermolecular interactions as a basis to explore specific aspects of biomolecular recognition, soft materials, and materials for electro-optical applications. In addition to broadening and deepening students’ knowledge of physical organic chemistry principles, the course is designed to provide opportunities for collaborative problem-solving and writing.
