I really enjoyed my first experience as a sessional instructor teaching ED-D 301 Learners and the Learning Environment to pre-service teachers in Fall 2008 - with much support from my supervisor, Dr. Wanda Boyer!
I further designed this course for the
Spring 2009 term by incorporating
some
great suggestions from these students, by attending several helpful
workshops at the Learning
and Teaching Centre on campus, and by reflecting on my thoughts
and
experience with these topics.
I came to this course with an Honours B.A. in Psychology. The
focus of my Honours Thesis
was on the adulthood and aging period of lifespan development. I spent
a few
years as a lay counsellor to adults and children. It was working with
children
through a grief support program that ignited my desire to be an
elementary
school teacher. After completing my B. Ed (Post-degree), I
taught full-time for
three years (Gr. 1, Gr. 1/2, K/1) before enrolling in the Educational
Psychology (Learning and Development) Master’s program here
at the
University of Victoria.
I have completed 2 years of course work and am now working on my thesis about the development of self-regulation in the preschool years. I will be focusing on my thesis this Fall 2009 and Spring 2010, but hope to return to university teaching again in the near future!
In the meantime, you may be able to find me at the Learning and Teaching Centre on campus. I will be involved with the Fall TA Conference as well as facilitating workshops such as the Instructor Skills Workshop (ISW) and Presentation Skills Workshop (PSW). I have an unlimited joy and passion for teaching and learning, so you may also find me there as a workshop participant too!
