Following the cfp of the Browning conference at the ABL this autumn, here is a round-up of events that are being organized through The Browning Society:

  • 10 March: AGM of The Browning Society, preceded by a visit to Carlyle’s House in Chelsea, London, and followed by a lecture by David Sorenson on Carlyle and Browning (tour at 1pm, meeting at 3pm)
  • 16 April: A Celebration of Browning’s “The Pied Piper of Hamelin” at Kings Place, London, in collaboration with Poet in the City. Speakers: Daniel Karlin, Margaret Reynolds, Pamela Neville-Sington and Anne Hardy. 7pm.   • 7 May: Robert Browning’s birthday
  • 13 May: Commemorative Evensong at St Marylebone Church, with special guest speaker Margaret Reynolds, followed by wine reception. 4pm.
  • 14 May: Talk at Chalfont St Giles Literary Festival: ‘”The World is All Before Us”: Robert Browning’s Life and Poetry’, by Pamela Neville-Sington.
  • 28-30 June conference: Reassessing the Dramatic Monologue: Browning, Before, Beyond
  • 22 September: Browning and Oxford (at Balliol College, with Seamus Perry)
  • December: Annual Commemoration for Robert Browning in Poet’s Corner, Westminster Abbey (details tbc here).
