Identity in Animated Japanese Cinema

Analysis of the arguments various Japanese animated films make about the theme of identity and its relationship to individual, social, national and spiritual dimensions of contemporary Japan. Also considers the identity of genre in works of art.

Note:

  • Credit will be granted for only one of PAAS 484, PAAS 487 (if taken in Sep-Dec 2011), JAPA 324B.

Prerequisites:

  • Minimum third-year standing; or
  • permission of the department.

Undergraduate course in Pacific and Asian Studies offered by the Department of Pacific and Asian Studies in the Faculty of Humanities.
