The history of the Roman Empire from the fourth century BC to the sixth century AD, examining reasons for the empire's growth, endurance, and eventual decline. Themes treated will include Roman militarism, changing Roman governance and Roman interaction with native populations.

- Credit will be granted for only one of GRS 341, GRS 202, CLAS 340.
